Today’s Age reports on the ‘hi-jacking’ of almost 300 Facebook groups by a gang of activists hell-bent on sending a timely reminder about the fragility of online reputation. These somewhat scary ‘do-gooders’ target groups whose administrators have left; they then rebrand the groups under their CYI guise and tell users their network has been ‘jacked’; after making their point, they simply restore ownership. Via their blog, they are reported as saying:
“Facebook Groups suffer from a major flaw. If an administrator of a group leaves, anyone can register as a new admin. So, in order to take control of a Facebook group, all you really have to do is a quick search on Google.”
