London’s ‘Independent’ reports that Unicef is reconsidering Ralph Fienes role as a suitable brand ambassador after his toilet tryst with ex-air hostess (and now alleged brothel escort), Lisa Robertson. I pretty much said this would be a PR consideration as soon as news of the incident broke. A Unicef spokesperson claimed that “this is a private matter and one on which we’re not going to comment”. Only a well-regarded, not-for-profit gets the luxury of making such statements. After all, imagine a corporate business using a celebrity with international profile to help it attract widespread media publicity. Only, on the way to the gig, he undermines the credibility of that organisation and himself by indulging in some risky sexual acts a mile or so into the air. Would the media let that kind of ‘private matter’ lie? The escort allegations are in Crikey, SMH and The Age.
