Continuing our run of media advisers making headlines, government comms operator David Smith has been the alleged messenger of a blackmail threat to Qld premier Peter Beattie. The threat was apparently designed to help former tourism minister Merri Rose (Smith’s former boss) secure a new job.
Smith – a decent bloke operating under testing circumstances according to real estate campaigner Neil Jenman has gone for a decidedly non-PR ‘no comment’ (as has Beattie) on his role in the affair, which could see Rose wilting in the darkness of a 14-yr jail term.
Yet another case of shooting the messenger. Tho maybe a seasoned PR veteran should have counselled Merri to do her own dirty work?
