The Guardian reports…apparently the legal eagles at Lacoste have so little to do that they’ve chased a small town English dental practice to court for infringing its crocodile logo. Le French manufacturer de highly-priced leisure apparel had argued that the sign could wrongly lead people to associate the surgery with its brand. Dentists Dr Simon Moore and Dr Tim Rumney maintained that shoppers wouldn’t confuse a small clinic offering root canal surgery with a fashion boutique selling distinctive tennis shirts. Commonsense prevailed. The court agreed. Enfin!!

It’s nice to see common sense applied to trademark issues. Lacoste could have turned it around and given all the staff at the dental clinic free t-shirts.
